The Steps in Hoshin Kanri:

  1. Vision and Long-Term Goals:
  2. The company’s management establishes a compelling vision that answers the fundamental question, "Why does the company exist?" From this vision, management sets key long-term goals, typically three to five years out, that, when achieved, will provide a significant competitive advantage.
  3. Annual Goals:
  4. These long-term objectives are broken down into annual goals. What should the company accomplish in the next year to move closer to its long-term vision?
  5. Focus Areas and Activities:
  6. Based on the annual goals, the key focus areas are identified. What needs to improve for the company to meet these yearly targets? From this analysis, specific activities are defined to address these areas.
  7. Improvement Goals and Accountability:
  8. In this step, you pinpoint the specific improvement goals. What must be done now, who is responsible, and by when should it be completed? Within the platform, you can assign responsibilities directly to a leader in the organization, who will then take ownership and drive the execution of the improvement goals.
